HYTHE ROTARIAN, JIM MARTIN, TO ATTEND THE CORONATION
We are pleased to hear that Hythe Rotarian Jim Martin, our Town Mayor and Speaker of the Cinque Ports, will be attending the King’s Coronation
The Cinque Ports have received 14 invitations to attend the Coronation. We had petitioned to attend, as tradition dictates, the Speaker of the Cinque Ports has attended almost all of the Coronations back to Richard I. Because there was so much speculation about a slimmed down Coronation we were unsure if we would receive any invitations. We have, however, received 14, one per town.
This puts our area in a very interesting position because 4 of the Cinque Ports are in FHDC area: Folkestone, Hythe, New Romney and Lydd, and Dover and Rye are not too far away.
The local Rotary Clubs may now have an ideal opportunity to use Hythe's Rotarian, Jum Martin's attendance at the Coronation to promote the area’s ancient links with the Crown, highlight the important role in defence of the Country and enhance our area as a destination for people to enjoy living history.
This is exciting news, a day when Jim becomes a Baron for the day, which we are proud of and look forward to hearing all about it upon Jim's return.
