A representative from each of the six Rotary clubs in the Medway Towns come together to organise this event each year. This year was the 28th.
A very attentive and supportive audience listened to 8 young musiciansaged between 13 and 18 years perform at the Brook Theatre in Chatham.
The 8 finalists had won through at the auditions for a place at the concert.
The event provides a platform for young musicians from the Medway and Gravesham areas to perform in a theatre in front of a public audience. Often this is a new experience for them but with careful rehearsal and guidance, in spite of their nervousness, they always rise to the occasion and this time was no different.
The concert included a performance by the Best Performance given at the 2021 Awards concert, Markus Sadler, who is an outstanding pianist and Guest Group, Gad’s Hill School Marimba Band.
The Best Overall Performer this year was cellist Isla Morgan from Kings’ School, Rochester and the runner-up was clarinettist Nina Linn who is a student at Fort Pitt Grammar School also in Rochester.
Awards, including cash prizes, were presented by the Deputy Mayor of Medway, Councillor Roger Barrett and Rotary District Governor Paul Frostick.
Thanks to the schools and music teachers for supporting the event and to the judges and the theatre for their support.
