As a result of St. Michael’s Hospice in St. Leonards asking for marshals for their Battle Attack event last Saturday 4th February, a good number of Bexhill Rotarians enjoyed an invigorating morning in the open air helping marshalling a muddy run with loads of obstacles down at Wylands Farm near Catsfield.
The event was in aid of St. Michael’s Hospice and was very well supported with well over 300 participants including many mums and dads with their children.
The Rotarians, having fortified themselves with a hearty English breakfast in the café on site, were directed to marshal various obstacles with the most spectacular one being the net where competitors had to crawl through mud under a net under the watchful eye of Rotarian James Slinn (see picture). After negotiating this obstacle, the competitors covered in mud were barely recognisable when they arrived at the next obstacle, a spiders web of ropes.
Despite being mud splattered, all the competitors be they young or not so young entered into the spirit of the morning which was to have fun and to boost hospice funds. The first 200 to finish the course were awarded medals and everybody who took part received a certificate
Bexhill Rotary President Perry Puddefoot summed up things by saying, “I would like to express my thanks for everybody who attended and for marshalling at Battle Attack, it was great to see you all with a pleasant breakfast and wellearned thanks from St. Michael’s Hospice.”
