Llandudno Rotary – 96th Charter Night
On 31st March, 47 Rotarians and friends from eight Rotary Clubs and three other service organisations came together at the Colwyn Bay Cricket Club to enjoy a fabulous 4-course meal and to celebrate Llandudno Rotary’s 96th Birthday
President Alan Guinn introduced his guests. President Elect Tris Owen gave a bi-lingual Grace and was also pressed into service in making three of the 11 presentations of the evening.
After the Loyal Toast, proposed by Rtn. Mike Perry and followed by a brief interval, President Alan Guinn reviewed our Rotary year. This was followed by a rollcall of Clubs, hosted by Rtn. Daniel Worsley, with each Club in turn taking wine with the President.
Rtn Phil. Jones then presented the Idris Jones Service Recognition Award to former Councillor Philip C Evans, JP as the Club’s token of thanks for his many years of dedicated service to the town.
District Governor Paul Dutton, who had travelled from his Ormskirk home to represent Rotary District 1180 at our evening, then gave brief greetings to the Club and commented on its involvement with, and contribution to, the Rotary District
The evening then took a surprise turn with the presentation of Paul Harris Fellowships to the equally unwitting Steve Butler and Alan Guinn; in each case this Award recognised their many years of valuable service to Llandudno Rotary. Certificates of Appreciation were also presented to each of Gill Butler and Brenda Guinn for their incredible support as true Friends of Rotary
The main speaker for the evening was impresario Ian Turner who enlightened us as to the magic of a cheese sandwich – it is, apparently, the dish of first choice of Micky Mouse. Not a lot of people know that!
Before President Alan ended proceedings with the traditional toast of “Rotary – and peace the world over!”, Master of Ceremonies Chris Drew called on six Rotarians each to step up and present a bouquet of flowers to one of the special guests of the evening
A great night of traditional Rotary fellowship. More about us here www.llandudnorotary.org
