FIRST TUESDAY IN THE MONTH - VETERANS HUB
The weather was pleasant to welcome the veterans who attended the April Veterans' Hub today who expressed that they enjoyed the company of their fellow veterans and volunteers from Epsom Royal British Legion, Epsom Rotary and friends.
The veterans were treated to buttered hot cross buns and treats and endless cups of tea and coffee and had a Representative from Surrey Boarders Research team who are in the process of carrying out visits of local community groups to enhance their research, and a Veterans Champion from Surrey County Council.
There was also a mini raffle and it was nice to hear that some of the veterans had a child who would greatly receive the Easter treat won. Our thanks goes also to Kieran from the Army Reserve Centre who helps set up the facilities.
Each Veterans session to include the other activity sessions of model making/activities and archery are well supported by Ian from Taxi Charity for Military Veterans, a charity that was first set up in 1948. Ian stayed with us during the session today and dutifully took some of the veterans back to their homes afterwards. Ian explained that he also belongs to other charities as a taxi driver and always visits with a smile on his face feeling that he has made it possible for his veterans passengers to reach out to groups like the Hub.
