March 22 and eleven members and wives from the Rotary Club of Billericay went along to the Billericay Theatre for a social outing. Roger and Sarah Kettle, Malcolm and Sue Acors, Ken and Jeannie Smith, Peter and Christabel Strong, David Holroyd, Bert French and Peter Greene went there to see a non-musical version of Willy Russel’s famous play – “Blood Brothers”.
Meeting at 7 pm for a 7.30 start was time for a pre-performance libation, and conversation flowed easily between friends and fellow Rotarians. Then into the compact auditorium for the play. A small cast but an excellent performance by all the actors, full of character and pathos.
A twenty-minute break allowed us all to have a drink and more energetic conversation, much of it praising the performance. Then back in for the second half, at the end of which saw everybody rise to their feet to applaud the actors. A great performance by all, and a most enjoyable show – even if the ending was a tragedy (the play - not the performance!).
We will do more of this!
