A Career in Shipbuilding
The speaker at the meeting of Kendal Rotary on 17th March was Ron Nelson, a retired engineer from Barrow Shipyard who gave a presentation entitled ‘A career in Shipbuilding’ in which he outlined his time whilst working there. He started on the ‘Vanguard’ class submarines for the M.O.D which when completed meant moving onto surface warships including Helicopter Carriers, fuel support ships and Frigates. From there he went back on to the ‘Acute’ class and ‘Dreadnought’ submarines until retirement.
