RIDERS NOTES
Dear Rider,
Welcome to the 2024 Rotary Tour d’Ilmington Cycle Ride organised by The Rotary Club of Shipston-on-Stour working with Shipston Home Nursing, Stour Health and Wellbeing Partnership and Cyclists Fighting Cancer.
We hope you have found all the information you need on the Rider HQ web-site including the route maps. Please note that the start/Finish has moved to Ilmington Playing Fields (CV36 4JQ).
These notes are intended to ensure all riders get the maximum enjoyment from the rides which are fun events where speed and time are of no consequence! If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact the Rotary Tour team at bob.armstrong@clara.co.uk .
Have a great ride and thank you for your support. All net proceeds from the ride will go towards Rotary Charities and good causes.
Before the event:
· Bike: Must be in good order; a puncture repair kit and/or spare inner tube advised. · Shipston Spokes will be on hand to conduct safety checks and offer advice.
· Classic riders please ensure that you carry with you any specialist equipment and spares wherever possible. (There is a support vehicle throughout the ride for malfunctioning riders and bikes).
· Clothing: Helmets must be worn and high visibility clothing is recommended.
Fitness. All riders take responsibility for their fitness in taking part in the event. You may find this link to be useful in preparing for the ride: Cycling UK
The day of the event
· Registration. It is important that all riders register at Ilmington Playing Fields before commencing their ride and also upon completion of their ride.
· Start Times: Classic Riders: 8:30am (Registration 8.00am to 11.00am).
Other Riders: 10:00am (Registration 9:30am to 12:00 noon
· Regulations
o Adhere to all the indicated one way and queuing regulations.
o Do not handle any goods unless you intend to purchase them.
o Take any litter home with you.
o Do not attend if you have had a recent positive Covid test or any Covid symptom.
· Refreshments Pavilion on arrival and return. Please note that all facilities at Ilmington Pavilion including catering will close at 5.00pm.
· Water and flapjacks provided on the Family and Hilly routes.
· Vegan and vegetarian options provided.
· Riders and guests must be aware of, and take responsibility for, any allergy risks.
· Cash payments: Accepted but payments by card preferred.
3 Car Parking and Toilets
· Free car parking on site will be clearly marked. Please do not park on the road or grass verges.
· Disabled Parking also available on site.
· Car parking is free and will be clearly marked with marshals to assist.
· Toilets at the start/finish but none on the routes.
4. Young riders:
· All riders under 18 years of age on the day of the ride must be accompanied by a Parent or Guardian or other responsible adult.
· Parents / Guardians or other responsible adults must understand the demands of cycling activity and that they alone can make the decision about the ability of the young person in their care to participate in the ride on public roads and to take appropriate safety precautions whilst riding.
· No special provision is made for under 18 riders and DBS checks will not have been made on the events’ organisers.
5 Routes
There are three rides with routes as set out below:
· The Steve Edwards Memorial Family Fun Ride. 10 miles of gentle cycling starting in the picturesque village of Ilmington cradled in the hills of the North Cotswolds. At the half way point there is a Feed Station (Newbold on Stour) for thirsty and hungry cyclists before returning to the finish at Ilmington Playing Fields. BLUE numbered riding tags will be provided on the day. Please note that the route is unchanged but has a different start and end point with a short ride to join the circuit. · The David Lockwood Memorial Ride: Just over 30 miles of the Cotswold escarpment around Ilmington. Featuring 2,500ft of hard climbing. Riders pass through the Feed station on two loops of the route. Throughout this ride, riders will be rewarded by breath-taking views. RED numbered riding tags will be provided on the day. · Please note road works have necessitated a late change to the route, please check with Ride with GPS. · The Rebecca Gray Memorial Ride. Designed with the connoisseurs of classic steel racing cycles in mind but not exclusively so. The first part of this 100k ride goes through the rolling countryside of Warwickshire and the Vale of Evesham. After ascending “The Col de Stanway” the undulating return route takes riders back to Ilmington via the ancient market town of Chipping Campden. · Route maps should be downloaded in advance from the Rider HQ website The Family and Hilly routes are clearly marked with distinctive direction arrows.
· Marshals on the route do not have the authority to stop motorists.
· Safety. All riders should be aware of uneven and potholed surfaces in places and particular care is needed on all the descents.
Please:
· Be careful when passing through Newbold on the A3400.
· Be sensitive to local residents when riding through Ilmington.
· Reduce your speed when descending Foxcote and Campden Hills.
· Respect all road users especially walkers and horse riders and observe the Highway Code.

The Rotary Club and individual member organisers and participants have striven to plan a safe event however they accept no legal responsibility or liability for accident or injury however caused. All individuals participating do so at their own risk and are therefore fully responsible for their own behaviour and safety during the event.
