The speaker at the meting of Kendal Rotary on 13th March was Lee Scofield who is a full time employee of the RSPB with responsibility for the Haweswater area. He described what the job entails in particular ‘fighting for nature on a hill farm’, where he outlined the problems with achieving balance between rewilding, while looking after farm management, livestock and preserving and encouraging wildlife. For example, raising the water tables on upland marshes and meandering rivers, reducing the sheep population and planting new trees are some of the measures being employed.
