Crucial Crew is a multi-agency education project, led by Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service. It informs and educates about 7000 year 6 pupils each year in Norfolk.
Diss and District Rotary supports Crucial Crew by sending volunteers to help guide the pupils between activities. On Tuesday 7th March, volunteers from Diss and District Rotary Club braved the snow and left Diss at 8am for Letton Hall at Shipdham. By the time they arrived at Letton Hall there was no snow to be seen and by 9.20 am the morning group of 140 youngsters had arrived ready for the challenges ahead.
The youngsters were divided into seven groups and moved between the various grand rooms in the Hall and the smaller rooms in the Stable Block. They met presenters from Norfolk Constabulary, the NHS, Road Safety, RNLI, East Anglia Air Ambulance, St Johns Ambulance, and of course the Fire Service..
The aim is to help children stay safe and learn valuable life skills. Young people are one of our best communication tools for spreading safety messages. They can share them with family, friends, carers, and the wider community and take forward these life skills into the future. The Diss and District Rotarians also enjoy the experience and will be returning for more Crucial Crew Events at The Space in Norwich on 23rd May and then again at City College on 11th July.
