Members of the Club and visitors to our weekly Thursday morning meeting, heard about a fairly new service available to adults in Medway experiencing difficulties with reading.
Anthea Martin from Read Easy Medway informed us that there are estimated to be 2.4 million adults in the UK who can't or can barely read.
There can be many reasons why someone experiences problems - absence from school, disrupted education from regular house moves, family problems, being a young carer, undiagnosed visual/hearing impairment or dyslexia.
Being unable to read is extremely isolating for the person concerned and can cause withdrawal from social interaction.
Read Easy helps adults develop literacy skills they need to live their lives to the fullest with confidential 1:1 reading coaching at carefully selected local venues using a phonics-based learning package which readers follow at their own pace.
