The earthquake in Türkiye and Syria – a collection for ShelterBox

The Rotary Club of Llandudno held a collection outside Marks & Spencer,  Parc Llandudno on Saturday, February 11th from 9 am to 4 pm to raise funds for ShelterBox, a partner of Rotary. They provide emergency aid in the form of equipment-filled boxes to those affected by disasters. Items include a tent, blankets, torch, first aid equipment, tools and solar lighting.

The collection was held in response to the recent earthquake in Türkiye and Syria, where tens of thousands have lost their lives and many more are injured and homeless.

Eight members of the Llandudno Rotary Club and four "Friends of Rotary" were in attendance, collecting funds from generous shoppers at Parc Llandudno. The Rotary Club would like to thank Parc Llandudno estate for permission to collect, Marks & Spencer for their support, Craig y Don Printing for donating and printing the wonderful display poster at such incredibly short notice, and Rotarian David Hardman for organising the signage and display.

Thanks also go to Rotary Secretary John New and Treasurer Ashok Harshey for their role in organising the operation, and to the 12 Rotarians and Friends who collected throughout the day.

Special mention goes to Rotarian Mike Pearce and Lindsay Pearce and the Llandudno Friendship Link, who raised £663 from a coffee morning and the Link Club reserves. When this is added to the £1,133  collected outside Parc Llandudno this yields £1,796 , which buys three emergency shelter boxes for three families in Türkiye or Syria.

The Rotary Club of Llandudno extends their gratitude to all who made the street collection a success.
