Emergency Aid for those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria

Rotary has already responded to the tragic double earthquake affecting Turkey and Syria through its affiliated charity ShelterBox.

Medway Sunlight Rotary Club have immediately donated £590 for a Shelterbox full of an insulated tent, warm blankets, cooking equipment, water purification kit, solar lights, tools and much more to help those homeless in the middle of a bitter winter.

The powerful earthquakes have ravaged southern Türkiye (formerly Turkey) and northern Syria, killing thousands of people and flattening 11,000 buildings.

Homes have been destroyed or left unsafe and people will have little choice but to sleep in the open in fear of more aftershocks. Around 23 million people could be affected across the two countries.

To make matters worse, temperatures can drop below freezing at this time of year, putting lives at risk.

The region where the earthquakes struck is home to significant numbers of Syrian refugees and internally displaced people. They have already faced so much – many having to flee their homes because of conflict.

ShelterBox has sent an emergency response team to carry out crucial assessments and establish how we can best help.  You can follow their response on www.shelterbox.org

If you would like to help our Club do more, please consider donating to our Paypal Giving Fund account - https://www.paypal.com/GB/fundraiser/charity/3222775.  You don’t need a PayPal account and 100% of the amount donated will go to provide help for those affected by the earthquakes.
