Armistice Day November 11 saw a delegation from the Rotary Club of Billericay visit Buttsbury Junior School for its Friday morning Assembly.
Why? To celebrate the award of a Presidential Citation for the achievements of its RotaKids Club. Present were President Michael Ginn, President-Elect Roger Kettle, Mike Sinclair, Patrick Rothon and Peter Greene, along with invited guest District Governor Jed Brooks. In front of the whole school, staff and three of the school Governors, Headteacher Ann Robinson called up the “core 5” RotaKids, as the officers of the club are called, and explained why we were all there.
“You can see our guests this morning, on the left are three of our new Governors and in front of you, some of the members of the Rotary Club of Billericay”, said Ann. “You will recognise Mr Sinclair and Mr Greene who have been frequent visitors to the school to support the RotaKids, but also present are president Mike Ginn, president-elect Roger Kettle and Patrick Rothon. Finally, they are accompanied by their District Governor Mr. Jed Brooks who is here to make a special presentation to the School. They are all volunteers who are committed to service to others and raising money for charities and good causes, and we are delighted to support them in the events they run in the town, as we have done over many years, as in this school we pursue similar objectives in fundraising and projects to help others.”
DG Jed Brooks then stepped forward to address the RotaKids and the school. “Members of Buttsbury Junior School RotaKids Club, I congratulate you, and the whole school, without whose support this would not have been possible, on being the winners of a RotaKids Presidential Citation. This Rotary award is a recognition of your achievements last year. You are one of very, very, few RotaKids club in Great Britain and the whole of Ireland to achieve this distinction. You did not just reach the level required, but you did incredibly well to exceed by far the required three targets by achieving seven out of a possible eight!
Jed then handed over the Citation to the RotaKids’ President, shaking each of the five officers’ hands to the applause of all present.
Headteacher Ann Robinson thanked Jed and Rotary for their visit that day “It is lovely to welcome so many members of the Rotary Club to our assembly for this very special presentation. We really enjoy working with the Rotary Club of Billericay and look forward to many more years of partnership.”
