The speaker at the meeting of Kendal Rotary on 23rd January was Tim Deighton from Queen Katherine School who is involved with their Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme with specific responsibility for organising and running the expedition section. He described how his interest in motivating underachieving children began whist he was a teacher in a Blackpool school and he showed the club photos of one on his latest expeditions to the Atlas mountains in North Africa where they climbed one of the highest peaks. His aim is to link all the local schools together to facilitate better, large expeditions.
