Rotary Club of Birstall Luddites
Santa Sleigh 2022
Directed by Ian and Produced by Sleigh engineer Bill H the Santa season started at the Birstall Lights
switch on Tues 29th Nov. Santa was escorted into Birstall by two giant reindeers,
and surrounded by children and families all waiting for the Birstall lights switch on.
This was the first of 18 Santa trips Ian made.
The first Santa street collection was Hillhead Drive and Westend Ave, and it was very very cold but dry.
Next the biggest Santa round, Moat Hill. This is a large estate with lots of children coming out to see Santa.
Wed 7th Dec is Woodlands and Almond Way, this can be lucrative on a good night , Almond Way is enjoyable where many older people come to their windows waving to santa which is a good feeling for the club to feel we are starting off peoples Christmas which they appreciate.
Mon 12th Santa visited Greenacres and Foxglove again in freezing weather.
Wed 14th Santa visited Millers Croft where it being a relatively new estate, brought lots and lots of families even families coming across from the Windmill estate to see Santa.
Every year Santa visits Fairfield Special School, 4 times this year, Santas Robert and Bill do a great rewarding job giving gifts to the schools children.
Santa also visited St Saviours Church Birstall.
Santa Bill visited Birstall Community centre for the Downs Syndrome group Christmas party, and next day Robert visited Fieldhead School.
Sun 18 was to be Santas last street collection but the weather took a hold, freezing cold changing to warmer westerly temperatures resulting in rain causing treacherous ice on pavements and roads.
Ian took the very sensible decision of cancelling the St Thomas collection for the safety of collectors and visitors coming out to see Santa
Tesco collections on Tue 20th to Friday 23rd were served by rotas of Rotarians, Birstall Bloomers and friends of Birstall Luddites, 9 to 6pm each day.
Big thanks to Ian who tirelessly escorts Santa on every visit,
and not forgetting all the leaflets printed by Jeremy and distributed by Luddites to all the homes
on the estates in Birstall and Howden Clough.
Also thanks to Tesco for letting Santa to run collections in the lead up to Christmas
at their busiest time of the year.
