Rotarians and some members of Inner Wheel met at Cowdray Park Golf club. After a superb meal we were treated to a presentation by Ben Law.
Ben - Woodsman, craftsman, eco-builder, teacher and writer lives and works in Prickly Nut Wood.near Petworth. The building of his unique woodland home was featured on Channel 4's Grand Designs a couple of years ago. Ben talked about the coppicing of his own woodland as well as craft products which he designs and sells. He showed us a picture of a chair which was commissioned for Prince Harry's Sentebale charity garden at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2015. Ben runs courses and trains apprentices. He showed us the best way for splitting various tyes of wood and something that really fascinated me - the making of roof tiles for the building constructed at The Weald and Downland Museum recently.
Ben has written several books some of which he had for sale.
A superb evening..I hope we are able to arrange a visit to Prickly Nut Wood when the weather is warmer.
