'Bicycle man' John Brebner took us on a tour of The Algarve, a place he has been walking and cycling since 1998. Using maps and pictures, we travelled across the 200 miles of the region. The coastline is mainly sand and clay, with very few rocks, so coastal erosion is extensive, and getting worse.

One area has cliffs over 200 feet high comprising solely of crushed sea shells. Forest fires have deforested large areas, and access tracks have been widened to allow access for fire fighting equipment. It is a barren, parched landscape, compared with Scotland, but spectacular in a different way, with orange groves in abundance. John is very knowledgeable about, and is a great enthusiast for the area.

Debby Broughton-Hay offered John a generous vote of thanks, for an excellent, informative presentation, and wished John a great holiday, when he returns to The Algarve later this year.
