Demonstration talk on first aid response

Rotarian Kate Sweeney gave Prestwick Rotarians a very useful, and entertaining, demonstration talk on first aid response, including how to put a casualty in the recovery position, to maintain, and protect the airway.

Lorraine McEvoy and Richie Cameron gamely offered themselves up as casualties. Kate then went on to deal with cardiac arrest. If the casualty is not breathing normally, then CPR is required. This involves 30 chest compressions, followed by rescue breaths, checking for an open airway. Kate demonstrated this on a rubber torso. It is important to not stop until recovery, or more help arrives. It was a great talk and demonstration from Kate, who ironically had slipped and sprained her ankle just before the presentation, but gamely, and bravely carried on despite the pain. Well done Kate. Much appreciated by us all, and thankyou also for the information sheets, and training first aid packs.

Rotarian Edith Sterrick gave Kate a very well-deserved vote of thanks.
