In conjunction with Epsom & Ewell Refugee Network and Surrey Stands With Ukraine, Rotary Clubs from Ashtead, Ewell and Epsom Rotary joined forces in making this a successful event. The picnic was by invitation only and the invitations were organised by Epsom & Ewell Refugee Network and the attendees were mostly from the Summer Language School especially set up.
We arrived with members of Ewell Rotary and Ashtead Rotary at around 9.30am setting up massive gazebos in unison and games. The invitees arrived at around 12 noon and were guided from the Station nearby to the event and were well greeted. The event kicked off with entertainment by way of games for the children, a puppet show and Ukrainian entertainer, who organised music and dancing and further events included face painting, henna designs, biscuit decorating.
Epsom Rotary funded free ice cream when a van attended to provide the children with cones of many delicious flavours and colours, and refreshments at the bar for the children and adults alike. We were lucky the weather was overall reasonable and it was clear that all had a wonderful time.
