SUPERBLOOM

SUPERBLOOM - TOWER OF LONDON 

A trip postponed from 19 July 2022 due to the heatwave, we were able to re-arrange our trip to Superbloom on Tuesday, 23 August 2022.   We used Edward Thomas Coaches and arranged two pick up from the Town Hall Epsom and from the Army Reserve Centre.   Members of Royal British Legion and Epsom Rotary took a group of veterans to the Tower of London Superbloom. 

Superbloom is a new natural landscape surrounding the Tower of London. This is the first summer visitors are able to walk through the moat to see the array of wild flowers. Over 20 million flower seeds were sown in the moat earlier this year, designed to bloom and evolve over the course of the summer in harmony with nature and to encourage wild life in London. However, most unfortunately many of thewild flowers were at  the time of our visit  no longer in bloom but there were areas of colour, and still many varieties of sun flowers and some interesting garden sculptures to admire. 

We were able to hire a few wheelchairs as there was a fair walk around the gardens.The Veterans particularly enjoyed the company and the trip and even had a chance of seeing the sights of London and we were in fact given a guided tour on the route up by our driver en route. 

The walk around the Moat eventually also led us to the Tower Hotel where the veterans all enjoyed an enriched cream tea and some had their desired beers etc.There was a much coffee and tea as you could drink and the cake stands were full of very interesting and luxurious cakes, all too many to consume that afternoon and many were able to take a selection home.  This was an excellent opportunity for the veterans to socialise, feel rather special and rest.  We were met by the coach driver a short distance from the Tower Hotel for the homeward bound journey, where the Veterans were escorted back by our regular cab driver.
