Our Charity Golf Tournament

The Rotary Club of Rayleigh Mill held its popular annual Charity Golf Tournament on Monday 15th August at the Rochford Hundred Golf Club

After the pause caused by Covid 19, the Rotary Club of Rayleigh Mill is back again on its regular schedule and staged its popular annual Charity Golf Tournament on Monday 15th August at the Rochford Hundred Golf Club, which was again sponsored by S. Stibbards and Sons, Funeral Directors .

After a month of practically no rain the course may have been slightly parched but true to the Rotary Club’s philanthropic ethos, the event organiser had somehow arranged for a thunderstorm which caused a pause in the competition halfway through the event. It did, however, give the players an excuse to visit the refreshment hut halfway round the course to refresh themselves with drinks and sausage rolls! The rain didn’t last long and the refreshed competitors went on to complete the course just a little later than scheduled.
Back in the clubhouse, when the scores were totted up, the team prize was won by the “3 Stiff Shafts and a Regular”. By a small margin the runners-up team was “Scuba Steve”.
In a closely fought individual competition two players shared the lead but the winner on countback was Scott Reeve.
There were two greens with a Nearest the Pin competition - Gary Lewer took the prize on the 7th green and James Deacon on the 11th. The Longest Drive competition was won by Charles Johnson.
The two winners of the Putting competition generously donated their £20 prizes back to the Charity Fund.
The competition was followed by a celebratory meal, with a table magician in attendance, a raffle, and a Charity Auction, where the assembled golfers bid vigorously for the lots on offer. All proceeds from the Golf Day will benefit the Rotary Club’s Charity Fund with the principal beneficiary being the Southend homeless charity HARP (www.harpsouthend.org.uk)
