Dementia Support – Sage House Tangmere.
Peter Haydn-Jones gave a most interesting talk on the development and work carried out supporting Dementia sufferers and their careers based at Sage House in Tangmere.
There are some 200 subtypes of dementia with approximately 850000 sufferers in the UK and 15000 in West Sussex alone.
The trust aim to give support from initial diagnosis to end of life with one support worker allocated as main contact throughout this time. During the Covid period when the House had to be closed telephone support continued.
At Sage House in addition to counselling sufferers can attend activity days which include creative arts, sport and just meeting other people with similar problems. These periods importantly give careers respite time to have a few hours to themselves without the constant worry of looking after their loved ones.
Dementia
Support – Sage House receive no governmental funding so fund raising is their
only source of income. From all we heard
and saw during the talk it is a very worthwhile cause and very worthy of Rotary’s
support this year.
