The speaker at the meeting of Kendal Rotary Club on 8th August was Mhairi Helme from ‘New Beginnings’, a charity set up to help refugees coming to this country, especially for those from Ukraine although some from Syria and Afghanistan are included.
At the start of the Ukrainian conflict the club, via street collections, sent a donation and she updated us on how the money was used. There are now about 350-400 Ukrainians living in Cumbria and help towards food and clothing is a priority as well as finding accommodation for the families.
