The speaker at the meeting of Kendal Rotary Club on 20th June was Bob Cartwright, the Deputy Chair of Westmorland Red Squirrels, who gave a presentation detailing the ethos and work of the charity.
From
over 3.5 million red squirrels in the UK in 1945, there are now only
about 120,000 left with only about 15,000 in England.
The invasive grey squirrels now dominate this country and the charity is aimed to redress the balance by careful management of habitat and controlling the grey squirrel population.
