Retired financial adviser Anne Brown gave an inspired talk on her
volunteering work on behalf of refugees, primarily from Ukraine. Anne
does not represent any established charity, and works tirelessly with a
small group determined to make a difference to the lives of all
displaced people.
Empty office space in Ayr is available for storage,
and this has been set up in a shop format so that folk can choose what
they want. Many arrive with nothing so that bedding, clothes and
toiletries and food are always needed. Bartering and constantly asking
for goods and voluntary help is a full time job, as is dealing with the
red tape involved when dealing with local authorities, and officialdom
in general. Rotarians asked Anne - how can we help? We already have good
contacts with Anne through Rotarian Lorraine McEvoy, and will continue
to strengthen this connection.
Rotarian Kate Sweeney gave Anne a well-deserved vote of thanks for her selfless dedication to helping those in dire need. Anne is shown with Club President Stephen Cooper.
back This section details the weekly talks at the club and have ranged widely from mindfulness to charity work, health, model making, favourite objects, music and gardening.
