Irvine Seagate Rotary had a hybrid meeting on Monday, with some members and the speaker at the Riverside Lodge hotel for a meal, and others joining later by Zoom for the talk and business. The speaker was Kacie Baumler, who is a Rotary Global Grant scholar from North Dakota currently doing a 2 year Masters in Occupational Therapy at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh. Kacie started a local placement at the Douglas Grant Centre at Ayrshire Central on Monday. She outlined her own background and interests, noting that she already has a degree in psychology and has done volunteering periods in India and Peru. Kacie hopes to take back her experience of the best of Scottish innovative approach to rehabilitation, as demonstrated at the Douglas Grant Centre and other modern centres in Scotland, both to practise and possibly to teach. Fiona Lee proposed a Vote of Thanks.
In the business session, it was noted that Rotary in the UK and internationally is coordinating with Rotary in Ukraine to deliver the best forms of aid as determined by those in that country. Seagate will again be coordinating the local Poppy Scotland appeal in the autumn.
