Prestwick Rotarians were treated to an inspirational talk from Angie Leigh-McPike, founder and director of Ayrshire Womens Hub. Angie is a real 'live wire' who founded the Hub in 2018, now based in Miller Road, Ayr.
The Hub offers a social space for women and girls suffering domestic violence, and other forms of abuse. The Hub has come a long way in 4 years, now with a staff of 12, support workers, and many volunteers. A safe social space is provided, which includes a small cafe.
Angie spoke passionately, without notes, about a range of activities including practical and emotional support, training, school visits, and combatting social isolation. Community strength is really important, especially in such troubled times. Mike Kelly offered a very well-deserved vote of thanks, on behalf of an appreciative audience.
