Speaker at Irvine Seagate Rotary’s zoom meeting on Monday was Michael Lafferty. Michael is a trustee of Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline, a national charity that for years has been bringing children from the Chernobyl area of Ukraine to Scotland for holidays away from the area affected by the nuclear fallout from the reactor failure. With the current situation in Ukraine they were hoping to sponsor refugees, but the bureaucratic hurdles are too high and they now propose to bring 100 children, who already have visas, for an extended holiday away from the war. 10 of these will be coming to Ayrshire, and host families are already in place. Seagate Rotary have again agreed to donate to this cause, and the public can support them through their Facebook Just Giving page at Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline.
Eight local schools took part in the Annual Rotary Primary Schools Quiz which this year was held at individual schools by Powerpoint presentation. Once all of the answer sheets have been received back Seagate will mark the competition and announce the results. Certificates will be presented shortly to the entrants in the Rotary Young Photographer competition. Local winners were intermediate, Freya Shaw, and senior, Skye Wightman.
