Cat is a purrfect hit!

The presentation of a robotic cat to the Sunlight Centre Dementia Support cafe at Christmas completed a programme of donations to six cafes to help those with Dementia.

Diners at the Christmas lunch for the Sunlight Dementia Support Café were joined by an unusual guest – a tabby cat!

The cat is a robotic one which purrs, meows, stretches its paws and even rolls over to have its tummy tickled and was a great hit!

The companion cat was presented by Medway Sunlight Rotary Club for the Support Café to bring joy and comfort to ageing loved ones without any vet bills to worry about!  The cat responds to petting and motion and can be a great help to those with dementia.

Bill Parkinson on behalf of the Rotary Club presented the cat to Tracey the Centre Manager, and service users and afterwards said “We are pleased to be able to donate this cat to the café and hope that those using the facilities find it helpful. It is particularly poignant today because we started our Rotary Club in the Sunlight Centre over 10 years ago.”

This donation completes a series of help provided by the Club to six dementia support cafes.  Dementia friendly memorabilia, memory books, washable tablecloths, teapots, crockery, urns, dementia cats, song books and other items were provided along with a display banner for the Dementia Action Alliance.

The items donated to Atlas Place, St Mary’s Island; Rogallo Place, Chatham; Rainham. Parkwood and Rochester cafes and now the Sunlight café will enable them to provide somewhere for those with Dementia and their carers to meet, socialise and enjoy themselves – an important coping mechanism.
