World Polio Day 2021

A collection at our 62nd Charter celebration earns enough to fund up to 16,000 anti-polio doses.

A World Free of Polio

Since our Charter anniversary falls within a few days of World Polio Day on October 24, we have a long-standing tradition of collecting for Rotary’s End Polio Now fund at our Charter lunch.  2021 was no exception, and it was so good after lockdown prevented any charter celebrations in 2020, to be able to hold this annual collection.

It is just a bucket collection of cash, made during the meal, but this year, with the possibility that people would not carry cash, we introduced an additional service, allowing donations of multiples of £10 by text of EndPolio to a special 5-digit text number.

16,000 vaccinations

A total of £400.32 was raised in the collection for “World Polio Day” at the charter lunch, which with gift aid of another £100.08 to add to this, makes a grand total of £500.40.

Adding the contribution from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will triple this, making a final total of £1501.20.  At 19c a jab, that is up to 16,000 doses.

We all join Treasurer and President-Elect Michael Ginn when he says “I look forward to the day when the world is free of polio and we can collect for another cause”.
