Aiket Castle - 29/11/21

Press Report

Irvine Seagate Rotary’s speaker on Monday was Donald Wilson, talking about the restoration of Aiket Castle near Dunlop.  With a history going back to the Lords of Cunninghame in the 15th century, the castle has recently been completely restored, refurbished and extended by its current owner.  The formal gardens are now being remodelled, and this is where Donald is applying his expertise and experience.  A Vote of thanks was proposed by Jim Fairgrieve.

On Thursday and Friday the Christmas trees at the Portal were put up and decorated.  Because of the Covid restrictions the number of trees has been reduced, and only three schools have been able to take part, Irvine Royal, St Mark’s and Glebe, together with Irvine Lasses Burns Club and main sponsors Ardagh Glass.  Despite this, they are worth a visit and bring a festive feel to this community hub.
