Christmas Collections - Dec 2021

Santa and his sleigh and collecting in local stores

Christmas Collections - Dec 2021

For many years Rotary Beckenham has taken Father Christmas and his sleigh around the residential streets of Beckenham to raise money to give to local childrens' charities.

This year was again different! Santa and the sleigh visited and families still heard carols and Christmas songs, but his helpers didn't knock on doors. Instead, people were encouraged to put money in our collecting buckets as we passed by. It has been another tough year for all the charities we normally support. Santa's helpers had card readers available and being able to accept cashless donations has been really valuable.

The event is always exciting for the young children en route and this year they were again able to check Santa's progress by loading the Sleigh Tracker app on mobile phones. Santa and the sleigh were out over 6 evenings starting at around 6.15 pm, from Wed 8th to Thurs 16th Dec. Thanks to the generosity of Beckenham residents, over £6,200 has been raised for childrens' charities.

We collected at local supermarkets again this year, initially at Tesco, Elmers End then later at Marks & Spencers Beckenham, but due to necessary Covid restrictions, we were not able to offer to pack shopping bages for customers at the stores. Thanks again to the generosity of Beckenham residents and local stores, a futher £3,100 has been raised for childrens' charities.

Thank you to everyone, you all gave so generously again this year.

A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Emma Martin from Bromley Brighter Beginnings joined members and partners for lunch and spoke about the work of the charity and gratefully received a donation from the club. A selection of photos taken at the lunch is on the carousel.
