Irvine Seagate Rotary had a hybrid meeting on Monday, some attending in person and some by Zoom. The speaker, Jannine Birtwistle, talking via zoom from Guernsey, outlined the Rotary International programme for empowering girls and women. Aimed mainly at developing countries, the objective is to lift individuals and communities out of poverty by educating girls and young women and enhancing their work and life opportunities. Jannine answered questions on her talk, and a Vote of Thanks was proposed by President Hugh Hutchison.
It was noted that the Seagate organised Poppy Scotland collections at Tesco and Sainsburys had been well supported. The total raised locally will not be known for several weeks.
