Rotary Technology Tournament 2023

Rotary is determined to help change the perception of STEM subjects in schools, and run Technology Tournaments to promote an understanding of the opportunities available.

Teams of four young people, from schools throughout the North East, will each be given  a box of materials and tools and a challenge to complete a task. Prizes will be given to the best teams in each of three categories, based on the level of difficulty, so it is quite possible for the youngest team to win the most difficult challenge.

The Tournament aims to offer students an opportunity to develop skills in design and technology, and teamworking, problem solving and communication.

The Tournament judges are drawn from local technology companies, and representatives from local companies will also be available to discuss career paths and opportunities during breaks throughout the day.

The event is funded by local Rotary Clubs, and by support from local technology companies.

Each Tournament starts at 9:15 a.m. and continues until about 3:30 p.m., when all the entries have been tested, and prizes awarded.

Rotary will also run a similar Junior Technology Tournament for 7 to 11 year olds.

For Rotary year  2022/23, the dates of the two tournaments have not yet been finalised, but the first is could be held in spring 2023.
