Our RotaKids just continue to amaze us. It was the turn of Buttsbury Juniors RotaKids to make their presentation on July 19 but Covid-19 intervened again and they were unable to take part. Lead Teacher Katie McCarty and Head Teacher Ann Robinson stepped up at the last moment in our Zoom Meeting to represent their Pupils achievements, Notable achievements despite and during lock-down.
Accompanied by slides, she introduced all the RotaKids’ officers, led by Ethan, Chair, and followed by Vice-chair Oliver, secretary Sophie, treasurer Hayden, and PR Emma. Katie Relayed the children’s thoughts:
They also continued Dementia Friends training. Oliver said: “ We learnt about how we can help those with dementia and raise awareness through meetings with our classes and with posters we have created and displayed around the school." Parents and grandparents have responded to letters by the pupils asking for twiddlemuffs to be created for their dementia friends. “By launching their tweedlemuff project, knitting them with their parents and grandparents."
“We have all been learning a lot more about Dementia Friends,” added Katie. “We are so proud of the all the efforts that have been made by the children
All the pupils wore something red for Comic Relief and colour was a theme again when they held a Purple Day fund-raising event for Cancer Research and raised £706. At the end of May they presented a cheque to their guest speakers from Cancer Research for the amount of £10,406 raised by Buttsbury Juniors through their fundraising events this year.”
