Life is full of sorrow and joy. A passing of a close friend and colleague is always a sad time for any individual and group. Prestwick resident, and Rotary friend, Jean Inness passed away on 9 July, after an illness. Prestwick Rotarians have worked closely with Jean and Douglas Inness over many years, helping to support their sterling charity work in The Philippines, and in Uganda. Our thoughts and sympathies are with her husband Douglas, and the many people of all nationalities who will surely miss her.
Prestwick Rotarian Gurdish Singh Uppal, known as Diesh, suffered a fatal heart attack in the early hours of 24 July. This kind, gentle, modest family man was well-known throughout Prestwick from his long association with the Taj Restaurant. He was an ex-Rotary President and club stalwart for many years, always willing to lend a hand. The photo shows him at the Prestwick Prom, helping with our popular ‘splat the rat’. His kindness and generosity extended well beyond Prestwick, to include sponsoring ‘eye camps’ in India. Simple cataract operations restored the sight, and hence lives, of many people every year. He will be sadly missed by us all. Our thoughts are with his devoted wife Rani, and their supportive children and grandchildren. The photo shows Diesh with Jean Inness at a Rotary function in past times.
