Eddie Lintott Legacy

Rotarian Eddie Lintott left a small legacy to the Midhurst and Petworth Rotary club asking that it should be used to support drama in the local schools.  Last week, after a year’s delay, pupils in Midhurst and Stedham Primary schools took  part in the first of a series of drama workshops run by Chichester Festival Theatre.  Here are the reports from two teachers involved:

Year 5 were lucky enough to meet with the two leaders of Chichester Festival Youth Theatre.

We did some lovely warm up activities and then got stuck into some drama, all linked to female inventors.

After looking at Ada Lovelace and Stephanie Kwolek we became machines and acted out mass production - including sound effects!!

From then we were given a BIG problem to solve, that of climate change.

The children came up with loads of brilliant inventions, ideas and then had to pitch them to the rest of the class and the CFYT team. There was a plethora of amazing and creative thoughts that the children shared confidently and clearly - great job!

What fun Year 1 had at the drama workshop. First, they acted out their favourite animal . They learnt stage directions and how to read a script like a director. Then they worked in pairs and groups to make a larger collection of animals for a trip to the zoo. They thought so carefully about the animal's features and sounds. It was fun when they made their own sound scape too!

The Rotary Club members are delighted that the children have benefitted from this exciting initiative and look forward to hearing more when the workshops resume in the Autumn.
