Bloodhound Education workshops at RWB Academy

17-18th June 2021: Year 7 students build a prototype air-powered rocket car

In June our club were very pleased to support the provision of STEM workshop challenges at RWB Academy by sponsoring one of a two day visit by Bloodhound Education.

Divided into four sessions, 230 year seven students learnt about the Bloodhound project and some of the challenges of breaking the land speed record. In small teams they were then given the challenge to build a prototype air-powered rocket car to travel a 10 metre distance in the shortest possible time.

Each of the four sessions was attended by two members of our Rotary club who were tasked with the same challenge!

It was a fantastic two days, enjoyed by everyone and clearly of great value to the students who all embraced the challenge with determination and interest.

The quality of the workshop delivery by Bloohound Education was outstanding, and the event was very well organised by the Academy.

A local newspaper reported on the event on 2nd July, which can be read at this link.
