Youth Competitions

In discussion with Dunfermline & Dunfermline Carnegie it was decided to add to the previous competitions, a new competition – Young Artist - ‘Wild Nature’.

Young Writer: Theme – ‘My Happiest Day’

Young Photographer – ‘Wild Nature’

All the information was simplified and more child friendly so that it could be used by Pupils as well as Teachers. This was delivered to schools in October. Due to restrictions, I was unable to support workshops in class visits as I had done in previous years.

Schools received another information sheet and entry form in January with an extended closing date to week-  before Easter Break.

Carnock, Holy Name, Culross and St Serfs submitted class entries whilst individual pupils from Limekilns and Torryburn submitted entries. The number of entries was fewer than previous years.

Grace and I judged the Writing – Intermediate Winner – Xander (Carnock)

Junior Winner – Melanie  (Holy Name)

Robert judged the Artist – Intermediate Winner Gabriella  (Carnock);

Junior Joint Winners – Melanie (Holy Name) & Maggie (Limekilns)

Schools and Parents of pupils were notified that award winners would be announced on Sunday 9th May at 7pm on Twitter, Facebook and RCWF website. Thanks to Douglas for organising. All entries received their certificates and gift voucher on Monday in school.

Young Musician – The 3 clubs decided not to hold this competition in November.

Primary School Quiz – There was no practical solution in holding this in ZOOM format.

RYLA– The Council discussed and agreed that at this uncertain time we would not sponsor an entry. Our £250 deposit from 2020 was carried forward by District to 2022. The District were planning to hold however in Mat it was announced it had been cancelled.

Technology Challenge – For a second year this will not take place,

This has been a very challenging year in schools, however in discussion with some Headteachers and Teachers I have been in awe of how they have risen to the challenges in many ways.  (as an aside I am so very glad I retired as a Headteacher 6 years ago!)

I have enjoyed my role as the Youth Convener for Rotary Club of West Fife. It started with my 1st year in Community when I was able to use my school contacts in presenting End Polio Now assemblies in schools as well as other members assisting planting Crocus Bulbs.
