Rotary Club of Thame & District is calling on all community and environment minded people to register in advance to join an online meeting about volunteer opportunities with Rotary on Wednesday 26^th May 2021 at 7 pm.

What is happenning

Marius Hopley, the District Governor of Rotary District 1090 in the Thames Valley, will give the talk. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about Rotary, how Rotary members give back to the community, Rotary’s areas of focus and how to join Rotary. The talk alternates with breakout 5 minutes session when participants will discuss in groups of 3-4 various community topics suggested by the speaker.

Supporting the environment, Rotary's new area of focus

One of the key areas covered by Marius Hopley will be Supporting the Environment which will become Rotary’s 7^th area of focus as from July 1^st 2021 with new Rotary year 2021-2022. Supporting the Environment joins peacebuilding and conflict prevention; disease prevention and treatment; water, sanitation, and hygiene; maternal and child health; basic education and literacy; and community economic development.

Marius Ciortan, Thame & District Rotary spokesman said: “I would like to encourage all environment and community-oriented people to join our Rotary Unplugged. Due to the closeness to the Chilterns area of outstanding beauty, I believe we have a fantastic opportunity to develop projects centred around the Environment, Rotary’s new focus area. Projects like tree planting, for example, could be considered, and we would need more volunteer members for these.”

About Thame & District Rotary and Phoenix Community Club

During the time of the pandemic, Rotary Club of Thame & District and Phoenix Community Club members have continued supporting the local community, have been meeting safely online and have been welcoming 10 new members since March 2020. Four people from Thame and Chinnor area - who attended the Rotary Unplugged online events in January and February - joined the Phoenix Community Club later last month. The clubs’ doors are largely open to welcome new volunteer members.
