Jo Davis treated Prestwick Rotarians to a great illustrated talk
Jo
Davis is an avid butterfly and moth enthusiast, living in Lanark. He
has his own moth trap which he puts out every week to record species
arriving in his garden. There are 20,000 species of moths in the world,
800 species in Scotland, so plenty to look for. The elephant hawk moth
shown here is one of the most spectacular to be seen in Scotland. Moths
also go a long way back, to the Jurassic period 190 million years ago,
and are evolving and adapting, as best they can, to cope with changing
environments, including climate change.
It was a wonderful, well-illustrated talk. Rotarian Gregor Purdie offered a deserved vote of thanks.
back This section details the weekly talks at the club and have ranged widely from mindfulness to charity work, health, model making, favourite objects, music and gardening.
