Young Photographer 2021

Over 400 photos were entered for judging which. this year, had to be done online

In February 2021 we organised, in conjunction with The Bewdley School, the annual photographic competition but, due to Covid, with a difference as we could not go to the school to judge the photos.Fortunately the Head of Art had a plan B and approximately 400 photos were made available for judging online.

Two age groups compete, Intermediate for 11 to 13 year olds and Senior for 14 to 18 years. The competition aims to encourage young people to experiment with photography and express their ideas by the interpretation of a topic through the medium of photography.

The theme this year was Wild Nature. The snow and ice gave many pupils inspiration. As the standard was very high it was, as usual, a very difficult job but the Judges came to unanimous conclusions.

The winner of the Intermediate section was Beau Knight and the winner of the Senior section was Charlotte Satchithananda and their entries went forward to the District round.

The Best Overall photo Senior went to Storm Powell with the Runner Up being Kara Merris.

In the Intermediate section, as there were so many entries the judges decided to award two winners and two runners up prizes. The Joint Best Photos were submitted by Freya Wood and Jake Webb with Emily Beauchamp and Jack Crumbleholme were runners up.

Unfortunately we were unable to have a prize giving and presentation at school and as under Covid rules there are currently no assemblies, so the winners received their prizes in their school tutor groups.

Charlotte and Beau were given a lovely book, The Wild Life Photographer of the Year. Gift Tokens were also given to them and to the runners up and the best overall photograph.

Thanks go to Jacqui Lord, Head of Art and her team for all the hard work. Also to School Governor, Terry Livesey, for judging and to Bewdley Rotary’s, Bob Hill, for assisting and producing 130 certificates; not forgetting President Graham Bullock for signing them all.
