Solinda told Club that she studied Sociology and Law at Basle University and that she became very motivated to further study how children identify themselves within society. Working with children, particularly those of with an Afro – Swiss heritage, she sought to understand the complexities of how their constructs of nationality were created, how they negotiated their way in life and developed their own identity. She clearly felt that the understanding of how children contribute to society and that ways of harnessing their ideas and potential need to be identified.
To that end she is pursuing a Master's Degree at University College London and explained in detail her research methods which includes involving young people themselves, commencing with teaching them group communication methodology utilising online facilities. A particular interest of Solinda is the concept of using the teaching and training in Arts alongside other development tools in the pursuit of Peace within societies.
In response to members’ questions Solinda explained that her aspirations were to consider studying the broad subject of Citizenship Education, possibly at PhD level, before moving into a professional career in the same field.
Many thanks were offered to Solinda by members of the Club.
