Sustainable oven

A contribution of £275 to the Learning for Life charity has provided a sustainable oven for Kacwamanga Primary School

Much cooking in Uganda is done on open fires, often inside buildings.  these are very inefficient and the smoke from them is damaging to health causing chest infections and lung damage.  sustainable ovens can be provided cheaply using earth and cow dung and have the effect of

  • reducing the use of timber by 66%
  • reducing deforestation
  • saving the equivalent of 60 days per year collecting timber
  • making more tme vailable for education and agriculture
  • improving health
  • training local people

The school is in Kabandole Village in the district of Mubende.  We now have a link with this school and will be able to follow its progress.
