At Seagate Rotary’s zoom meeting on Monday, members reported continuing with their lockdown routines, and were looking forward to further relaxation of the restrictions on movement and mixing. Gardens, DIY and dog walking need to be augmented by more varied activities and more personal contact. It was noted that several entries had been received from Irvine Royal Academy in the Rotary Young Photographer, Writer and Artist competitions, and that the artwork submitted by Marcelina Witek had won the West of Scotland heat and would go forward to the national finals later in the year.
The speaker on Monday was Sally Lawton, a senior nurse who runs the nurse education unit in Aberdeen. Sally recently produced a novel on nursing in the First World War, as part of a PhD thesis, and reflected on the differences and similarities of nursing in wartime and during the Covid pandemic. Much has changed, and yet basic human needs and pressures remain very similar. After questions and discussions, a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Andy Slater.
