The Children’s
Society was formed in 1881 by Edward Rudolf and has come a very long way since
then as social issues have changed over the decades, and the Society has
developed over these 140 years in order to address these ever changing social issues.
The Children’s
Society is linked to the Church of England but deals with children of all
religious and ethnic backgrounds. The Society listens to and
deals with young people up to the age of 18 who have suffered abuse,
exploitation and neglect, including sexual and criminal exploitation, refugees
and migrants and county lines amongst others. The well being and mental health
of children is now an important issue which the Society is now dealing with,
and they are endeavouring to bring to the attention of the the relevant
authorities and government by lobbying.
The presentation highlighted may facts dealing with the issues faced by children today and closed with Ruth answering various questions raised by members. It finished by all attendees thanking Ruth in the usual way with a round of applause.
