‘Prestwick Rotarian, Richie Cameron, is taking part in the Craig Potter 47x10k Fundraising Challenge which is planned to raise funds for the outstanding charity Heart of Scotland Appeal. The charity, based in Edinburgh, raises money for vital and life-saving research into heart and cardiovascular disease in Scotland.
Craig’s challenge is to run a 10k each day for 47 consecutive days. Quite a formidable feat amounting to around 11 marathons in distance! Asked why--Craig says he wants to raise awareness of the fact that 47 people die each day in Scotland as a result of cardiovascular disease and to support research to combat this awful statistic.
You see, last year Craig’s mum, Theresa, passed away suddenly. Theresa was a tireless social justice campaigner in North Ayrshire and dedicated to working with families and children in her local communities of Irvine and Kilwinning, for which she was much loved and respected.
Craig and his dad Dougie decided to support the Heart of Scotland vision to inspire and invest in life-changing medical research in any way they could-hence the 47x10k Challenge. He will be supported by a great team of friends, family, organisations and businesses so that on every 10k he will be accompanied and that partner will raise funds towards the challenge.
Richie will be running with Craig on 29 April. Meanwhile you may see him in training around the streets of Prestwick! Said Richie, ‘I am proud to partner Craig in his great fundraising quest and delighted to as a Prestwick Rotary member’.
