On Monday at the Irvine Seagate Rotary zoom meeting, President Hugh Hutchison presented Andy Slater with a Paul Harris Fellowship. This award is Rotary’s highest honour for members and is named after the founder of the Rotary movement. Andy is the club secretary and a past President, and also has been very active at the West of Scotland District level for many years where he has held many posts including District Governor and Secretary. In addition he is deeply involved with Irvine Cancer Care. The award was a complete surprise for Andy who generally knows everything that is going on.
The speaker on Monday was Marine Conservation authority Gloria Barnet. Explorer and author Gloria is known to many as the ‘Weird Fish Lady’, due to her Primary School workshops and published teaching source material. She also works for Cunard giving lectures on Marine Conservation. Gloria’s talk was illustrated with many under water photos and videos. The environment is one of Rotary’s key focus subjects, and there were many questions and comments. A Vote of Thanks was proposed by Sandy Niven.
