Charity Walk around Scotland - 08/03/21

Press Report

At the Irvine Seagate Rotary zoom meeting on Monday it was noted that Spring has definitely sprung.  The herons are back at the heronry renovating their nests, and thousands of weed seeds are germinating on every patch of bare ground in the garden.  Members reported their usual routines of work for some, and walk for others.  The Primary Schools Quiz will not be possible this year, but some senior schools competitions may yet go ahead.  The Abbeyfield garden project is progressing, and other charity activities are in the background.
The speaker on Monday was Edoardo Bedin.  Originally from Italy, Edoardo works for the National Trust for Scotland, and is a member of the Ythan Valley Rotary in Aberdeenshirre.  Last summer he was furloughed and took advantage of the time available to do a charity walk around Scotland, visiting as many NTS properties as he could and raising money for the reopening of Haddo House.  Walking for 24 days, he visited 23 properties, from castles to cottages from Aberdeen to Arran and back, staying with Rotary families.  He was hosted by Seagate after his walk from Glasgow to Ardrossan prior to visiting Brodick Castle.  In all Edoardo walked 500 miles and raised over £6,600.There were discussions and questions about the walk and the NTS properties, and a Vote of Thanks was proposed by Jim Anderson, in Italian with an Irvine accent.
